Il lavoro di tesi consiste di 15 CFU (375 ore) di attività presso un laboratorio dell'Ateneo o di altra Struttura pubblica o privata, o all'Estero in ambito Erasmus o altro programma di mobilità internazionale cui partecipi l'Ateneo. L'attività deve essere svolta sotto la responsabilità di un relatore, nominato dal Consiglio di Intercorso del CdLM-BMI e individuato tra i propri docenti e, nel caso di attività esterne al CdLM, tale relatore affianca quello nominato dalla Struttura ospitante. Lo studente concorda con il relatore il contenuto del lavoro e il laboratorio presso cui esso verrà svolto. Il lavoro di tesi è a carattere sperimentale ma non necessariamente di particolare originalità. Lo studente richiede autorizzazione allo svolgimento del lavoro di tesi al Presidente del Consiglio Intercorso con apposita istanza (modulistica disponibile on-line nel sito Web del CdLM-BMI) 6 mesi prima dell’inizio dell’attività. La richiesta sarà portata in approvazione al Consiglio Intercorso. Ove non regolamentato da apposita convenzione, il lavoro sperimentale svolto dallo studente per preparare la tesi di laurea è da intendersi come attività formativa i cui costi sono a carico della struttura ospitante che detiene la proprietà intellettuale delle conoscenze e dei risultati. Alla fine del lavoro di tesi lo studente prepara un elaborato che deve essere redatto in relazione al tipo di argomento scelto e al tipo di lavoro svolto. Di norma deve contenere una introduzione generale, una descrizione degli obiettivi specifici, una accurata descrizione dei metodi utili e dei risultati e una accurata analisi della letteratura. Il CdLM-BMI favorisce lo svolgimento di tesi sperimentali presso Enti pubblici e privati a carattere biotecnologico, attraverso la stipula di adeguate convenzioni, anche al fine di facilitare l'ingresso dei laureati nel mondo del lavoro.

Erasmus and Internationalization
The Master’s Degree Program (CdLM) promotes international mobility of its students by encouraging internships abroad.
Students apply for international mobility calls (Erasmus) to obtain scholarships that allow them to attend courses and take exams at foreign universities.
Students wishing to take exams at other Italian universities must first request approval (nulla osta) from the CdLM Council in order for the acquired ECTS credits to be officially recognized. The thesis work consists of 15 ECTS credits (375 hours) of activity to be carried out in a laboratory of the University or another public or private institution, or abroad under the Erasmus program or another international mobility program in which the University participates.
In particular, the recognition of credits acquired abroad is foreseen, both as exam validation and as recognition of other learning activities, based on exchange agreements with European and non-European universities and laboratories, where a credit system comparable to the ECTS system exists.
Such recognition can take place based on the course syllabi and up to the number of ECTS credits provided by the Academic Regulations for the Scientific-Disciplinary Sector (SSD) to which they refer, and must be previously authorized by the Department's Erasmus Committee.
The Study Program appoints Prof. Lorena Urbanelli as the academic contact for international mobility. She assists students in identifying host institutions abroad, compiling their learning agreements, and recognizing the credits earned. She collaborates with the international mobility contact of the DCBB (Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology), Prof. M.N. Faginas Lago.
The outgoing and returning students’ learning agreements are assessed by the Internationalization Office.

The Master’s Degree Program (CdLM) provides support to students in carrying out internships and training activities included in the study plan at external institutions (Public and Private Entities operating in the field of Biotechnology). It interacts directly with these institutions and establishes specific agreements both at the regional and national level.

It should be noted that, during the assignment of the final degree grade, up to 2 additional points may be awarded for academic activities carried out externally at public institutions, or for academic activities carried out abroad within the Erasmus program or other international mobility programs recognized by the University (Art. 7 of the Academic Regulations).
Since 2021, internationalization efforts have been strengthened through an agreement between the Biotechnology program and the Biological Sciences degree program at the Universidade do Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI) in Brazil.
Students enrolled in the Biotechnology program who participate in this initiative can access the Dual Degree Program.
Incoming Student Orientation
The orientation for incoming students is coordinated by the President of the Master’s Degree Program (CdLM) with the support of faculty groups.
It is also carried out in collaboration with the Council of the DCBB (Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology) and the Rector’s Delegate for student orientation.
Throughout the academic year, the President and some faculty members of the CdLM typically meet with students enrolled in the second and third year of the Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology to present the CdLM’s study plan.

Internship and Training Orientation
The CdLM provides guidance and support to students for internships and training activities included in the study plan, to be carried out at external institutions (Public and Private Entities operating in the field of Biotechnology). The thesis work consists of 15 ECTS credits (375 hours) of activity to be carried out in a laboratory of the University or another public or private institution, or abroad within the Erasmus program or another international mobility program in which the University participates.
The activity must be carried out under the supervision of a thesis advisor, appointed by the Intercourse Council of the CdLM-BMI (Master’s Degree in Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology), selected from among its teaching staff. In the case of external activities, this advisor works alongside a supervisor appointed by the host institution.
The student agrees with the advisor on the content of the thesis work and the laboratory in which it will be conducted. The thesis is experimental in nature, although it is not required to be highly original.
The student must submit a formal request for authorization to begin the thesis work to the President of the Intercourse Council, using the specific form available online on the CdLM-BMI website, six months before the start of the activity. The request will then be submitted to the Intercourse Council for approval.
If the thesis work is not governed by a specific agreement, the experimental activity carried out by the student for the preparation of the thesis is considered a training activity, and its costs are to be covered by the host institution, which retains intellectual property rights over the knowledge and results produced.
At the end of the thesis work, the student prepares a written dissertation that must be structured according to the topic and type of work conducted. It should generally include:
a general introduction,
a description of the specific objectives,
a detailed description of methods and results,
and a thorough literature analysis.
The CdLM-BMI encourages students to carry out experimental theses at public and private institutions operating in the biotechnology sector, through the establishment of appropriate agreements, also with the aim of facilitating the graduates’ entry into the job market.

Il CdLM fornisce assistenza agli studenti per lo svolgimento dell'attività di tirocinio e stages previste dal piano formativo presso strutture esterne (Enti Pubblici e Privati operanti nel settore delle Biotecnologie), interagisce direttamente con le stesse e stipula apposite convenzioni in ambito regionale ed extra-regionale. Nella sezione moduilistica del corso di laurea sono disponibili i moduli per la richiesta di svolgimento di tirocinio.
Si precisa che in sede di assegnazione del voto finale è possibile riconoscere fino a un massimo di punti 2 per le attività didattiche svolte all'esterno presso strutture pubbliche, oppure per le attività didattiche svolte all'estero in ambito Erasmus o in altro programma di mobilità internazionale riconosciuto dall’Ateneo (Art.7 Regolamento Didattico).

Gli studenti regolarmente iscritti al terzo anno in corso ed in regola con il pagamento delle tasse, riceveranno una mail nel mese di ottobre per la compilazione del piano di studi e l’inserimento delle attività a libera scelta dello studente (12 CFU)direttamente, attraverso l’applicativo SOL, scegliendo tra un elenco di esami già presente ed autorizzati.Gli studenti fuori corso e gli studenti i quali volessero optare per un esame non presente nella lista del SOL, considerando che dovranno avere come unico vincolo quello della coerenza al percorso formativo, devono compilare il Modulo scelta corsi opzionali e consegnarlo presso la Segreteria didattica del CdL di Biotecnologie in via del Giochetto, edificio A o inviarlo all’indirizzo per essere sottoposto ad autorizzazione da parte del Presidente del CdL. Il Corso di Laurea Magistrale di Biotecnologie Molecolari e Industriali (CdLM-BMI) è ad accesso libero.
I richiedenti dovranno formulare istanza al Presidente del corso utilizzando apposita modulistica predisposta dal CdLM-BMI e disponibile nel sito web a questo link.

L'utenza sostenibile è di 65 studenti.
Per l’iscrizione sono richiesti i seguenti requisiti curriculari:
In relazione all’art. 6, comma 2 del DM 270/2004, possono iscriversi direttamente al CdLM-BMI i richiedenti in possesso della laurea triennale in Biotecnologie, classe delle lauree L-2 ai sensi del DM 270/2004, oppure della laurea triennale in Biotecnologie, classe delle lauree L-1 ai sensi del DM 509/99.
Possono inoltre essere ammessi al CdLM-BMI:
1) tutti i richiedenti in possesso di diploma di laurea, conseguito presso l’Ateneo, appartenente aduna delle seguenti classi di laurea: L-13, Scienze biologiche; LM-13, Farmacia; LM-13, Chimica e Tecnologia Farmaceutiche; LM-41, Medicina e Chirurgia; LM-42, Medicina Veterinaria; oppure ex D.M. 509/99: Classe 12, Scienze Biologiche; Classe 46/S, Medicina e Chirurgia; Classe 47/S Medicina Veterinaria;
2) tutti i richiedenti in possesso di altra laurea o di un titolo di studio conseguito presso altre sedi universitarie, purché il percorso formativo sia valutato congruo da una apposita Commissione.
E’ inoltre necessario che il richiedente abbia il possesso di almeno 80 CFU nei settori scientifico-disciplinari di base e caratterizzanti per il CdLM triennale in Biotecnologie, classe delle lauree L-2 ai sensi del DM 270/2004 e specificati nel presente Regolamento didattico.
Il possesso dei requisiti curriculari richiesti per l'accesso viene verificato dalla apposita Commissione che rilascia il "nulla osta".
Qualora la Commissione ritenga che il candidato non sia in possesso dei requisiti curriculari indispensabili, potrà attribuire debiti formativi individuali e stabilire le modalità con cui potranno essere sanati, prima della immatricolazione. Il CdLM BMI provvede a che il richiedente possa recuperare i debiti curriculari, sia attivando adeguati corsi integrativi e di recupero, sia permettendo l'iscrizione a singoli insegnamenti offerti dall'Ateneo.
Per i richiedenti che, pur avendo i requisiti curriculari, hanno conseguito la laurea con un voto inferiore o uguale a 90/110 è prevista la verifica dell'adeguata preparazione personale. Tale verifica verrà effettuata dalla Commissione per il rilascio del nulla osta che avrà il compito di accertare il possesso delle conoscenze e delle competenze nei settori della Chimica, Biochimica, Biologia Cellulare, Biologia Molecolare e Microbiologia.
